Spectral Bodies

This piece considers the simulation and subjectivity in VR technology through narratives about inhabiting our bodies (proprioception) and losing this sense.

Videotape (5:30 minutes) :

A spectral hand and arm, as spectral dots and skeletal lines, in a virtual environment driven by the data glove.

Physiological experiments, performed by the artist, creating body illusions with 'subjects' suggests that our imaginary bodies (or are they real bodies?) can be destabilized.

Segment of interactive work begins the process of re-representing the body as a virtual body. Working with a scientist, the artist combined body illusions of impossible arm and hand transformation with VR technology.

All technical equipment is supplied and part of the piece. Technical instructions and support can be provided as negotiated.
